Why a serendipity practice matters

Halfway up a brutal bike climb, squeezing the last of an energy gel, Justin Gold, founder of Justin's Nut Butter had a thought: "I wish this were peanut butter." Why isn't this peanut butter?

That idea landed because he was open and paying attention. It survived because he had somewhere to save it. It became important because he did something with it.

He pursued that small trigger all the way to a $286 million exit in 2016 as Justin's Nut Butter. The difference between an idle thought and a breakthrough isn't luck. It's having the mechanics in place to catch the idea and do something with it before it slips away.

This bootcamp builds those mechanics.

How it works

Small on purpose. Serendipity isn't something you sit-and-get — it's something you build.

Engage with Engaging!

Set goals and engage with the intention to encounter new people, places, ideas and insights. And get started.

Practice Noticing

Train your eye to see what others miss and collect fragments of insight.

Ask 'So What?'

Sit with what you've noticed. Ask the questions that provoke deeper meaning.

Review & Connect

Take stock of your collection. Keep what matters, let go of the rest, and force collisions.

Make & Create

Mash-ups, sketches, and the first shape of an idea. Bring it into the real world.

Sustain Momentum

Set up a practice that runs on its own after the bootcamp ends.

Meet the Team

The Practice Serendipity team is led by Nora Guerrera. For over a decade, Nora has worked at the intersection of design, innovation, and entrepreneurship, leading human-centered strategy in corporate, consulting, and startup environments.

Through her work as a practitioner, PhD research, and her role as a faculty member at Parsons School of Design, she’s spent years studying the patterns behind breakthroughs, both small and large. Her conclusion: there’s a practice hidden inside each one of them. Serendipity — the practice of recognizing, connecting, and acting on unexpected opportunities to create outsized value.

Now, she’s developed a systematic framework for serendipity. It is a research-backed methodology developed through doctoral work at RMIT University and tested and utilized with individuals, teams, and organizations across the globe.

Nora is supported by an amazing team of expert freelancers.
